BCL NEWS W06/20

First Week of new Season 2 Rules

The BCL SCQ Season 2 ruleset was released on last weekend. Before the first leagues starting later on in Feb the rules are in test mode and before the first league start we will publish the 1.0 version. Until then we might adjust the rules based on community feedback or common sense.

After the first week a few minor changes has been implemented

  • Dynamite is banned on T5
  • AT Mine is banned on T5
  • Fine tuned penalties Rooftop violation (on Marita) -25 tickets per kill
  • Fine tuned penalties Fortification violation (on Operation Underground) Forfeit

The dynamite and AT-mine on T5 makes sense since these should primarily be anti vehicle assets. In T5 all vehicles are banned, so no need to harass infantry with explosives traps. The penalties for rooftops and fortifications were just missing from the rules.

If you have feedback or suggestions regarding the rules you can always comment the rules on BCL Discord Server. We will consider all legit suggestions and raise that as a topic in the scq-council.

Decider Map is rotating

We are testing this season a rotating decider map system. Each week we randomly pick one map from the map pool as the decider. This map is published on BCL Discord server on the #announcements channel. The weekly map can also be found from this BCL News site from the + link on the upper right corner of this site.

Matches

Ladders are running

The BCL Ladder matches has been going on for a while now. It looks like the most active ladder is the EU PS4 T5 with 8 teams attending. LaW seems to be the most active team challenging teams left and right. They have played already two matches – won both – and even thou they are already on #1 position they are challenging other teams. RuN seems to be next in line for LaW

Other ladders in EU and NA are still waiting for more teams to attend.

Please remember that in BCL teams have to have 3 ladder games done for eligibility to attend the League. The league positioning is used for divisions too if there are enough teams to have separate division. Playing ladder matches for positions is also fun 😉

Leagues starting on Feb

In BCL we have separate leagues different platforms (PS4/XB1/PC) and geographical entities (EU/NA).

T8 SCQ begins 28th February.
T5 SCQ begins 29th February.

The suggested weekday for T8 is Fri and T5 Sat. It’s the suggested day. Teams can always agree another day if the suggested one is difficult to arrange.

From the Rules

Each match is scheduled for suggested date & time. Match can be played on scheduled time or teams can agree a different time. The match can be played early or maximum seven days after the suggested time. Contact between leaders in all league fixtures must be made a minimum of 48 hour prior to time of fixture. This must be via BCL website match chat to ensure messages are monitored for fairness and clarity.

We will only start the leagues with enough registered teams. A leader can register for league on BCL website League pages. Just select “League” and your platform to see open leagues. The team in the league must have minimum of 3 ladder matches to be eligible to attend.  We can start other leagues as we get teams registered on later times.

If you don’t see enough teams in your ladder/league please feel free to promote the league to other teams to get the league going.

Season 2 SCQ Rules are out

The second BFV Squad Conquest season in BCL is about to start and we have concluded new rules for the new season.

I would like to thank the scq-council for helping us to make good and equal rules for our upcoming season.

You can access the rules via permalink: http://battlefieldcommunityleague.com/news/rules/bfv/scq-season-2-rules/

There were couple of tricky things causing some discussion. The last things to solve where those difficult to proof 3x Scopes and “Rapid-fire Thompson” = M1928A1 with the Light Bolt Specialisation. We ended up banning the Thompson gun entirely and trying how it will go with the 3x banning. If during the preseason or after the group phase we feel like this – or any other – decision needs revisiting we just might do that.

Please read the rules thoroughly and adopt the way BCL is supposed to be played.  You are free to give feedback to the rules and we might change the rules before the leagues or between the phases (group/knockout/finals) if we see fit. We will announce all the rule changes in the #announcements channel on BCL Discord and on this news site.

Thank you all who participated on this journey and have some great matches in BCL!

Whats coming to Battlefield V in 2019

The Battlefield V is by no means a perfect game – far from it. It’s not particularly old game, but there has been so much hassle around it, that it really feels like we have had BFV for ages!

It’s still difficult to understand what happened on the release of the Battlefield V. After the game was out Dice withdrew themselves totally into their shell and it felt like they didn’t listen at all what we – the players – really wanted from the game. They just blindly pushed what they felt was right and ignored everything else. Now half a year later Dice finally brings in lot’s of the missing content – the content players would have liked to see in the game ages ago.

On march 2019 Dice made a strong commitment by publishing the roadmap for the rest of the year. It was great news, but one issue Dice has had for a long time is the communications strategy. There has been couple of versions of the roadmap and more detailed information is scattered around different media and to be honest, its sometimes impossible to follow, what is really happening!

We at BCL want to help. Here is a recap of the 2019 roadmap and some background info of the different steps.

BCL NEWS W19/19

On week 19 of 2019 the first ever Ladder really kicked off.

SCQ Ladder

Rule Changes

Rules has been updated to version 1.1 Change summary of 1.1. rules

  • Fjell 652 map messed up competitive matches a bit. Now we have even number of maps in the Squad Conquest. It brings couple of challenges that needed some attention. New section added to the rules “2.1 Switching the sides
  • The new Medic Bolt Action Carbines Commando Carbine and the Tromboncino M28 didn’t get much love from the community and both of the new guns were banned 1.1.4 Bolt-Action Carbines. The latest Finnish addition to the game Lahti-Saloranta M26 is added to allowed guns as is the Selbstlader 1906 what was forgotten from the initial vote.
  • The latest P08 Carbine (Recon) is still on the table. It’s not banned nor allowed for time being. If a gun is not specifically allowed, you are not allowed to use it in the comp matches.
  • Added a short “2.5 Entering the result” entry to outline how the score is recorded

Read the rules carefully and take note of the new side switching policy.

Playing the ladder

Teams has been struggling a bit with challenging other teams. The whole community is learning the new Ladder system, admins included. The initial intention was the challenges to be more serious in that sense, that once a challenge is made, it can’t be declined – except by forfeiting. It’s a challenging task and teams can’t be forced to play on short notice or on absurd times. We are driving the challenges to a direction where challenge must be accepted, but the timing is still negotiable. More about that once we have concluded something.

We are working on the site system to make the site tool better support our intentions. While we are improving the site, I would ask teams to work together for better ladder experience

  • Don’t challenge a team with a short notice. Give enough time to your opponent to arrange the game.
  • To make the ladder smoother you should pre-agree with your potential opponent. Agree timing and make the challenge to the system after you have agreed the details with your opponent.
  • If you get challenged try to react to the challenge as soon as possible. Contact the challenger if the timing does not suite you and if you can’t play nor reach the opponent decline the challenge to free up both teams for other challenges.

Matches

The Ladder start to shape up as teams are playing the matches. It’s definitely not there yet, but we are starting to see a pattern.

Congrats for the winners!

Teams

We have quite a lot teams attending already. Several new teams joined just the past week. We also lost another team when ParE decided to step down.

There are 23 teams fighting for their positions on the ladder! Most of the teams have not fought yet. The ladder will show some real positions in coming weeks when more matches has been fought.

SCQ League

Qualification for the league is through the ladder. Play with your team to Rank on the ladder and on the 30th of May your team will be placed in the league division. Of the current 23 teams already battling it out on the PS4 ladder, 11 of these have yet to apply to the league. If your team wish to merely use the ladder as a scrim tool this is fine and of course is one of the uses for the ladder, however if your team wishes to compete in league division you will also need to apply for the league. The teams on the ladder are not automatically in the league. Without the clarification by applying your team could miss out.

Format

The League format will comprise of divisions of 8 teams. This means that the highest ranked teams on the the ladder on the 30th of May who have applied to the league will make up the 1st division. The next 8 will qualify for the 2nd division , as we move forward with more teams joining we will add more divisions where needed. These 8 team will be divided into two groups of 4. The teams in the groups will play each other once, giving them 3 matches to play in the group phase of the division.  The teams finishing in the first two places will qualify for the knockout phase of the league.  This gives us two semifinals with the winners of these going through to the final playing to become division 1 season 1 Champions.

BCL NEWS W18/19

The return of the Squad Conquest has made is possible to play Clan matches again. With that BCL is back on  competitive Battlefield.

SCQ Ladder

Squad Conquest ladder has started on BCL website. Ladder is available on three main platforms: PS4, XB1 and PC. We have 17 teams already on PS4 ladder and the first team just joined the PC ladder.

First teams tried to play on the weekend, but of course EA decided differently and the servers were down. There is still no matches on the ladder! But hoping this will soon change!

We have removed one team from the ladder Danger Zones. The team members didn’t seem like legit players and we have had no contact with the team leader. In Ladder it’s important we have only active teams this team was removed.

SCQ Ladder Kick Off

Our very first Ladder went just live! T8 Squad Conquest in Battlefield V is now live on BLC site. Same time our council worked hard to fine tune the rules for the game mode and the rules are now also live at https://battlefieldcommunityleague.com/news/rules/bfv/t8-scq

The ladder is a new competitive mode for BCL where teams challenge each other to improve their position in the ladder. This is a new mode and I’m sure there are some hiccups in the beginning in the ladder it self and our system supporting it. Please be patient, it will improve over time.

Teams have started to challenge each other already. Please read all the rules carefully and make note of the ladder specific rules regarding the challenges and accepting the challenge. The idea is to provide active opponents to all participating teams, but at the same time we want to have flexibility on arranging the games to give all teams a fair chance to play at appropriate time.

Let the fighting begin. Happy Hunting!

Squad Conquest Ladder Starts on 3rd May

The new version, so called BCL 2.0, is live! It’s not changing everything, but there are some new nice features.

What’s new

We have replaced the “Challenge Matches” with new Ladder system. The idea of a ladder is to be an ongoing pursuit for better position on the ladder. In the ladder you should be able to find other active teams on your platform and always find teams to fight with.

The ladder will act as the qualifier to leagues and we will use the ladder position to determine the league divisions. So be sure to attend to the ladders to secure your participation right to the leagues.

SCQ Squad ConQuest Ladder is open

Long awaited Squad Conquest game mode is back in BFV. We have opened EU ladders for all three platforms: PS4, XB1 and PC. You can join the leagues on the BCL website

Join the ladder and make sure you get your representative to the SCQ Council. You can always come and talk more in the BCL Discord.

Even thou there are no rental servers in BFV the 8v8 SCQ game mode can be played with teams by “Conquering” the server. Teams just join the same server and try to clear the server from randoms. Usually most of the blueberries leave the server after a few rounds but sometimes you might need to send a polite message asking them to leave to make room for your clan match. Please be polite or they will stay just to irritate you back 😉

Schedule

The Schedule is as follows:

  • 1st – 2nd May – voting for the BCL Rules for T8 SCQ, rules will be voted by the representatives of teams participating the ladder
  • 3rd Ladder starts
  • 31st May League Starts – based on the ladder teams

How it works

The idea of the ladder is to provide continuous feed of opponents on the same level to teams. It also serves as a qualification to the leagues. Ladder position shows us the active clans and their skill level in the community. Attending to a league requires a position in the ladder. The position may determine the league division too – if there are divisions in the league.

Each team in the ladder must play one ladder match on regular intervals. Tema play by challenging other teams in the ladder. A team can challenge anyone +/-5 positions in the ladder. The winning team will gain positions in the ladder and the loosing team will loose position. Simple and easy.

Open letter about RSP to Mr. Battlefield – Lars Gustavsson

Dear Mr. Gustavsson,
I’m writing this concerned about the future of the Battlefield series. I’m part of a true Battlefield fan community and am one of those players who has been playing Battlefield for decades. I felt the urge to speak up after reading about the latest communication regarding the Rental Server Program (RSP) in Battlefield V (BFV).

Battlefield V has been a controversial game. In public there has been discussion about the sales figures and how the sales didn’t meet the expectations. That has led into speculation of the motivation and dedication EA and/or DICE have to further develop the game that has been a financial disappointment.

I fully understand how business operates and the importance of profit in any business. If the profit margin on Battlefield V sales has been lower than expected it doesn’t necessarily mean that Battlefield V is a bad game. When a game releases, buyers have little experience about the game itself. Buying decision is based on community reactions and past experiences. I dare to claim, that the disappointing sales figures of BFV are impacted by decisions made on Battlefield 1 (BF1).

As I understand, BF1 was a big financial success. It was the successor for the highly appreciated Battlefield 4 (BF4). I think the success of BF1 was based on the success of BF4. DICE made some bold moves on BF1 and changed many core gameplay mechanics. It’s good to try something new and try to push the game franchise forward, but with big changes there is a risk of big failures.

Unfortunately, many of the new mechanics were not well received by the players. I played BF1 from the early release to the BFV release, but I watched many of my friends to drop out of the game. During the life span of BF1 most of my BF4 era friends quit playing BF1 altogether. Luckily, I made some new friends, so I could continue to play the game in a team, like I feel the game is intended to be played.

When BFV was announced many faithful Battlefield players hesitated buying the game. BF1 had been a disappointment, and there was a lot uncertainty about the new Battlefield V.

We have lately learned from Dan Mitriones’ reddit post that DICE is evaluating whether it will bring the Rental Server Program to the game at all. It is good that the topic is finally brought to the gaming community’s attention, but I think the approach Dan and DICE are taking is somewhat wrong.

I’m running a competitive Battlefield community. We play competitive Battlefield tournaments in the Battlefield Community League (BCL). BCL has over 7,000 registered accounts. We are competing in different game modes on different platforms and continents. I understand these players are just a fraction of the whole buying audience, but these are the players who keep on playing after the initial hype is over. They don’t just play the game, they are the ones posting videos, discussing in social media, streaming, and keeping the hype and visibility on your game for years.

It’s difficult to calculate exact ROI for the investment of developing the RSP platform, since the rental fees of the servers alone probably don’t cover the cost. But I would ask you to look at the bigger picture.

RSP has been in Battlefield for a very long time – it’s part of the Battlefield culture. While playing in a squad of friends on public servers is fun, I would say any Battlefield game reaches its true potential when teams play against each other in a clan war. We are constantly getting new players into competitive Battlefield, and most of them are thrilled at how intense and exciting competitive gaming can be. In many cases the enthusiasm is back on the game that was already almost forgotten.

If the Rental Server Program is not coming to Battlefield V it will be the final blow to the competitive scene. Even though Battlefield games haven’t ever had proper support for competitive gaming, the community has built it into the games through rented servers. If RSP is killed for BFV it will terminate the competitive scene totally.

If the competitive community dies it will not only turn thousands of players away from Battlefield V, but it would most likely have an impact on the next Battlefield sales figures. I’ve played Battlefield games for a long time, and it’s painful for me to watch my favorite game go down due to hasty decisions. I’m not saying that Battlefield will live or die depending on RSP, but the decisions made on Battlefield 1 started this downhill trend of Battlefield, and the decisions made now on Battlefield V will set the direction for the future of the whole franchise.

BCL NEWS W44/18

Hello my fellow Battlefielders! Long time has passed since the last update. What can I say – life happened!

We are all waiting for the next iteration of Battlefield and it’s just around the corner. On 20th Nov it should be finally available after a delay. What will we get and what is missing?

We know that the Battle Royale game mode is not in the launch, it will come later on. Unfortunately we already know that the Rental Server Program (RSP) is not in the launch either. There is no ETA for RSP, but we can only hope it’s coming rather sooner than later. The competitive gaming is more or less dependant on the RSP.

When the next Battlefield releases in November I’m sure everyone will want to grind the maps, weapons etc. but at some point everyone will be eager to do some scrims. Will there be a workaround for missing features like RSP and Platoons or will we continue competing on BF1 until BFV is ready…

Leagues

Even thou one might say that the Battlefield 1 is at the end of it’s life cycle we are still competing on it. One league just ended while another one just started. What will be the last league on BF1 remains to be seen. It will of course also depend on the schedule of competitive features in Battlefield V

T5 DOM PS4 EU Season 5

It just might have been the last BF1 DOM season in BCL. We had a handful of teams still attending and we had a good run. It was only on one division, but we managed to get 4 groups fighting for the championships. It all boiled down to knockouts where two teams managed to fight their way to the final.

Two old rivalries ApeX and RuN met again in the final. I casted the final partially, but an unfortunate event of power surge ended the stream prematurely. I tried to get is back up, but several parts of my setup were screwed and I didn’t manage to get it back up and running. Here are the first two rounds I managed to cast.

Results

# Map RuN ApeX Diff
1 Amiens 46 100 54
2 Amiens 58 100 42
3 Suez 51 100 49
4 Suez 57 100 43
SUM 212 400 188

Sorry for spoiling the result, but the outcome was a clear victory to ApeX. So the Season 5 champion in ApeX e-Sports

PC Incursions Season 1

Incursions arrived with high expectations for it to be THE competitive game mode. It newer managed to get out of an alpha/demo version and it still has only 3 maps. Many teams played it for a while but in the end running those three maps with three game modes became to repetitive and many teams dropped out of the whole Incursions scene.

BCL newer managed to have an Incursions league and that needed to be fixed. We are running the very first Incursions league. It’s on PC platform and it’s kinda mini league with only four teams participating.

Two matches have already been played and it seems like Incursions is still alive to certain degree. At least the matches have been exciting. Battle Epic casted the latest match from yesterday, where Legion Gaming faced TEAMdelta.

The future of BCL

It’s been a quiet period on competitive Battlefield and many solid teams have retired from BF1. BCL is still very much alive and kicking. Us in BCL are also eager to get the comp scene going on the new Battlefield V and we will come back stronger than ever for the new Battlefield.

We have a whole new BCL 2.0 in development and hopefully we will see all the new stuff by the first BFV leagues. I’m sure many teams will come back to Battlefield  after the BFV launch and we will have all the leagues, divisions, game modes, continents and platforms active again in no time. While waiting try out some awesome games. I’ve seen lot’s of my Battlefield friends playing Fifa, RDR2 and some have tried other FPS games like R6S or even CoD BO4!

Keep those fingers busy, we will be on BFV in no time.

Get ready for the FINAL Battlefield 1 competition before BFV!

With Battlefield V just over 5 weeks away, Battlefield Community League looks to supply a FINAL STAND -type of competition for the EU PC platform.

Some questions you may have:

Why run a league this late in to the game?

Even though Battlefield V is just around the corner, facts are that there will be no RSP program at launch, meaning no competitive play for a while longer. Therefore we look to give teams an opportunity to compete once more, before it’s time to bite in to BFV competitive.

Why Incursions?

Battlefield 1 Incursions has a private match system that does not require any team to pay for a game server. As well as already being an experience with a fixed ruleset, meaning no need for BCL to design a custom one.

How much time do we need to commit to this?

The format of this league will be:

  • Group stage (best of 2) & grand final (best of 3)
  • 1 group of all teams
  • You play each team once, in a 1 match/week format
  • The top 2 teams will play a grand final to decide the champion of the FINAL BATTLE, the last Battlefield 1 competition before Battlefield V
  • The goal is to finish the league before the official launch of Battlefield V (November 20th)

Can matches be rescheduled?

Yes! The match dates/times will be fixed, but you can together with your opponent decide a new match date. Please keep the matches within a 7-day reschedule-period though.

What are the dates?

Registration opens: October 10th

Registration closes: October 19th

League start: October 22nd

League ends: ~November 20th

Will any matches be streamed?
